Providing Verified SetUps (VSUs) for Web sites and end-user browsers is a free public service for a more secure Internet. A Directory Service (DS) has an additional function that is a source of revenue for the public entity:
- Providing Trust Services to anyone wishing to validate SSLX-presented trust information

Directory Services are in a unique, public and trusted position in the Circle of Trust, sitting between the Web site owner and the Web surfer. Because of this unique position, the DS has the ability to extend their “trust brokerage” from real-time to any-time.
This means that a DS may offer proactive types of trust services, such as alerts, premium services and other not-yet-imagined services. These might be offerings such as an alert service that sends an email or SMS to a subscriber if any new VSU has been performed by a designated Web site; or if any VSU information has changed. If the DS is creative, they could start a service offering for Web sites whereby they collect additional verified information from the site owner. This could then be brokered in different ways to a paying end-user who desire a more private Web experience.
Another way to leverage real-time into any-time is, of course, advertising. As SSLX is a real-time privacy and security system, users are actively enticed to view the secure channel and all of its parts. This means that reasonable and responsible advertising, especially for additional trust services, is a win-win possibility.
If the DS is licensed to provide them, then SSLX Private Directory Services are another revenue opportunity.
The driver of these services is privacy needs, wants and demands from SSLX participants. The regulator of these would be the SSLX Public Administrator whose independent perspective will keep the balance between site owners and end-users, within the ‘public trust’ of the DS.
